A Safe Return to Work post-COVID-19

While the world is still reeling from ongoing COVID-19 concerns, many provinces have announced plans to relax public health restrictions put in place when the global pandemic locked down most of the Country. For employers, this may mean the opportunity to resume business in some capacity but will also require employers to make difficult decisions around their business operations on a go forward basis.

Bios:
Denis Mahoney is a Labour and Employment Partner at McInnes Cooper’s St. John’s Office and a member of the firm’s Board of Directors. Denis has extensive experience advising employers in the oil and gas, mining, transportation, construction and service sectors on a wide range of labour and employment matters. Denis has been very active in providing support and guidance to employers on the employment, health and safety issues associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
A sought-after presenter and panelist, Denis frequently receives requests to speak at national, regional and local seminars and conferences, and provides training and education on a variety of labour and employment topics.
Denis is Vice-Chair of Memorial University’s Board of Regents and a Member of the Advisory Committee for the Centre for Law in the Contemporary Workplace at Queen’s University. He also sits on the Board of Directors for NOIA and the St. John’s Boys and Girls Club. He previously served as Chair of the St. John’s Board of Trade and as a member of the firm’s management team.

Amanda practices management-side labour and employment law, advising federally and provincially regulated employers on a wide range of matters. Her approach to her legal practice focuses on getting to know and understand her clients’ business and needs, helping ensure that her advice considers the whole picture. Recently, Amanda has been advising clients on a variety of Covid-19 related legal matters.
Amanda regularly provides advice on a broad spectrum of employment issues, including employment standards, contract and policy development as well as strategic advice on disciplinary matters and employee terminations. From a labour law perspective, Amanda has experience and a particular interest in collective bargaining and collective agreement interpretation.
Amanda has taught labour relations at Memorial University and presents regularly with the McInnes Cooper Labour and Employment Practice Group on important and emerging topics in labour and employment.
