    Board Congratulates Business Excellence Award Winners
    The St. John’s Board of Trade recognized some of the city’s most outstanding entrepreneurs today at the 27th Annual RBC Business Excellence Awards.

     

    “These awards celebrate the achievements of private sector business and community leaders. They acknowledge the significant contributions our members make to our community and province,” says Janis Byrne, Chair of the St. John’s Board of Trade. “On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff, over 750 members who make up our organization, I congratulate all of this year’s award recipients and wish them many more years of continued success.”
     

    The Business Excellence Awards represent overall achievement across several categories. The recipients have distinguished themselves at a very highest level of success during this business year.     Community Impact (over 20 employees)- Newfoundland and Labrador Credit Union
    Community Impact (under 20 employees)- DC Design House
    Leader in Growth and Sales- Ray Agency Inc.

    The Business Excellence Award is the most prestigious award represented by the St. John’s Board of Trade. The winner of this award recognizes innovation, creativity, sales growth and a passion for success. This year, the Board is proud to shine the spotlight on Dallas Mercer Consulting Inc.
    The St. John’s Board of Trade is a non-partisan, business advocacy organization that is the principle voice of business for over 700 members in the St. John’s area.     Community Impact with More than 20 Employees – Newfoundland and Labrador Credit Union
    This award recognizes companies with more than 20 employees that are continuously involved in helping the community and make outstanding contributions through donations, time, effort and other means. NLCU’s commitment to people and communities defines their core co-operative values, entrenched in everything they do: education, excellence, empowerment, innovation, trust, integrity, and social responsibility. They believe that their community involvement encompasses all 7 of values. By helping communities, they learn more about the places they live and work, and community members learn more about who they are and what they do. 

    Community Impact with Fewer than 20 Employees- DC Design House
    This award recognizes companies with fewer than 20 employees that are continuously involved and make outstanding contributions to the community. On average DC gives $50,000 a year in sponsorships to various organizations such as NLAD, MusicNL, Mount Pearl Frosty Festival, Boys and Girls Club, Rotary Club North West, TedX, etc.  DC Design House hosts events, as a team they volunteer at events and create collateral for various organizations on the Avalon. DC also has community involvement and volunteer time as a company KPI with goals for employee to provide volunteer hours every month. 

    Leader in Growth and Sales – Ray Agency Inc.
    This award recognizes companies that are experiencing an increase in demand for their product and service resulting in significant growth in sales. Sales at Ray Agency Inc. have increased by 132%, and net income has increased by 262%. They continue to grow by winning new business through RFP’s and through client referrals. They continue to expand and build upon existing business by strengthening relationships with their core client base.  

    Marketing & Promotional Achievement- Dallas Mercer Consulting Inc.
    This award recognizes companies who stand out in a crowd. One that is original and provides results to their bottom line through their marketing and promotion. Marketing and promotion are part of the overall yearly goal because not only do they go hand-in-hand with their sales objectives, they also serve to position the company's image. When people think of Disability Management and Safety training and consulting, the goal is that they think DMC, first. 

    Customer Service & Reliability- The Luxus Boutique Hotel
    This award recognizes overall achievement or improvement in dedication to customer satisfaction through service, or development of an outstanding product or service. Luxus bottom-line: it cost 5 times more to attract customers than to retain existing ones. They customers have an exceptional product to begin with. Each suite is consistent, with superior amenities and décor. Loyalty guest receive their own monogrammed bathrobe and pillowcase during each stay. 

    Workplace Excellence- Noseworthy & Chapman Chartered Professional Accountants
    This award recognizes companies who have provided an exceptional work environment through things such as staff development, work and life balance, fair employment, staff appreciation, and much more. At Noseworthy Chapman, they conduct annual staff surveys to determine the success of our workplace excellence initiatives. They also conduct surveys after each team event to determine how the event was received and what improvements we could make for future. They respect the feedback from our staff and are willing to change initiatives if they are not successful as well as review any further requests received from the surveys. The firm has an open-door policy which allows staff to bring their concerns forward directly to any partner or member of the senior management team.

    Leader in Diversity- Genesis
    This award recognizes an inclusive business which demonstrate best practices in recognizing and appreciating diversity so that employees, clients, customers are respected and valued as unique individuals. Genesis is passionate about the power of diversity. As a technology business incubator, they have seen talent and creativity come from all parts of the world, all genders & orientations, religious & educational backgrounds, ages. Genesis actively measures how many immigrants and women are represented within the Genesis community of clients.

    Emerging Young Professionals- Jillian Walsh
    Brimming with talent and taking a business to new heights. The Emerging Young Professional award recipient is a leader, innovator, and champion of industry and community with the perfect mixture of youth and experience.

    Business Excellence Award- Dallas Mercer Consulting Inc.
