Power Hour with the Private Sector
The St. John's Board of Trade
2019 Election Platform
Demographics and Debt. All 4 leaders have been invited to attend.
The Power Hour with the Private Sector is a member centric event that provides space for members of the private sector to engage with the three political leaders to ask the questions that matter to them.
Through consultations with our members, the St. John's Board of Trade has developed key election issues for the provincial election campaign focused on debt and demographics.
Gaining control of our debt and putting a plan in place to deal with our demographic situation will help us leverage our advantages and strengthen our global competitiveness. St. John's is a great place to live and work, but the foundation of our prosperity is shifting.
Through research we have identified several factors that limit business growth, from the rising cost of electricity, to an elevated cost of living, to a decreased labour force. These factors, coupled with high input cost such as raising electricity prices and a burdensome regulatory environment, mean the cost of doing business in St. John's is high compared to other jurisdictions.
Businesses are the backbone of our economy and our communities. To ensure the next provincial election addresses the most important issues for their survival, we will host this Q and A for our members.
