Summer Student Wage Subsidy

Hire a post secondary summer student today!

This government program provides a subsidy to assist Private Sector and Not-for-Profit Organizations which include School Districts and Municipalities to create summer jobs for post-secondary students entering or returning to post-secondary studies in the upcoming school year.

The subsidy for Not-for-Profit organizations approved under this program will be 100 per cent of the current minimum wage plus 15 per cent to help offset the mandatory employment related costs (MERCs) to the maximum hours approved (a minimum of 25 hours per week must be provided to maintain the subsidy).

The subsidy for Private Sector employers shall be $5.60 per hour towards the minimum wage. Employers can request subsidy for five (5) to twelve (12) weeks, and up to 40 hours per week (a minimum of 25 hours per week must be provided to maintain the subsidy).

Employment must end on or before September 2, 2018.
